Restoration job for our local school.
I was asked if I could breathe life back into this mud kitchen. It’s had years of play, but structurally, it was sound.
A few days work, and now it’s ready to be played with all over again for years to come.
It was quite satisfying to do something for the school, and as an added bonus, my little girl gets to play with it every day

I tried to salvage the top of the mud kitchen but the plywood was far to gone so had to be replaced.

Removing the top was challenging and we may have lost a chisel in the process.

We decided to use some external hardwood ply and cherry banding to seal the edges. Then use one of our jigs and router to cut out the hole for the bowl. These where probably the most challenging parts of the projects.

Next was to glue down the base and give the kitchen a good rub down and finish with some external paint. We used Cuprinol Garden Shades Exterior Forget Me Not, and it looks great.

Next it was just a case of cleaning the hobs, attaching a handle to the door and reattaching the knobs. And there you go, a fully restored mud kitchen for the kiddies.

The finished product, amazing what a new top and some paint can do.
